Mission Statement

'To provide services that will enable more disadvantaged people to enter the professions'

BritSom is a UK registered charity and the main organisation working with Somali and BMER communities of all ages in Barnet and neighbouring boroughs. We provide many services for the local community including educational, social and cultural activities.

What drives the work of our members and volunteers is their desire to make a meaningful difference in society so that we are all able to live amongst each other in a responsible and courteous manner.

Supplementary School

What we do

We provide free support for the Somali and refugee and migrant communities in Barnet.

We can help with Maths and English homework (National Curriculum Key Stage 1 to 4).

We can also support students who are revising for exams.

Students can ask questions in their native language in a friendly, supportive environment.

Groups are made up of children and young people at the same level - so everyone can learn together.

We support parents who are new to the British education system with a monthly support group.

Our Service Users

Our service users are important to us. It is because of them that we have come to exist as an organisation.

So rest assured that whatever your race, gender, religion or political affiliation, BritSom will not tolerate any sort of discrimination towards clients, members or volunteers.

People matter!

Other activities

We have other activites, such as board games, cards and reading out loud.

Friday is Debate day - we give our group a topic to discuss and get them thinking.

The children work on their presentation skills and improve their confidence.

We also offer trips and outings to museums, theatre theme parks and farms.
